Principles into Practice trials

ARC Scotland is trialling Principles into Practice in participating local authority areas over a 2-year period.

The Scottish Government is funding the Principles into Practice trial and Scottish Government officials will be supporting ARC Scotland with its delivery and evaluation.

The purpose of the trial is to:

  • improve transitions support for young people and their parents and carers in the trial areas
  • test and bring the Principles into Practice framework, and its associated resources, to completion to support its implementation more widely.

The trial aims to improve experiences of transition for young people aged 14-25 who need additional support to make the transition to young adult life, and to address the long running and well documented challenges of coordinating support at this time.

We will be ‘learning by doing’, using the three-step improvement framework for Scotland’s public services to identify, design and test changes that will transform support for young people.

We will also pioneer new approaches to multi-agency working, staff development, engaging with young people, parents and carers, and data gathering and evaluation.

By the end of the trial we will have a fully developed and tested framework with evaluation resources that will be freely available to every local authority in Scotland.
